Welcome to Fostering Pet Nutrition! I’m glad you found me!

I’m Lauren Foster and I am a board certified veterinary nutritionist. I received my doctorate of veterinary medicine from Mississippi State University in 2006. My plan was to practice general small animal medicine and surgery and so I moved to the east coast to carry out that plan. I practiced for 7 years in Maryland and New York. During this time, I realized that for many of my patients with medical conditions, the nutritional management of those conditions was lacking. This led me to pursue a small animal nutrition residency at the University of Missouri in 2013. I completed my residency in 2015 and then began a post-doctoral research fellowship. I became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Nutrition in 2017. During my time at the University of Missouri, I became interested in physical therapy and rehabilitation, which is a natural adjunct to proper nutrition. This led me to pursuing certification as a canine rehabilitation practitioner (CCRP) in 2019. I spent a year and a half as assistant teaching professor in small animal nutrition at the University of Missouri before returning to private practice as a veterinary nutritionist. My goal is to be a part of your pet’s veterinary medical team, assisting you and your pet not only in the nutritional management of disease, but in maintaining health and preventing disease. I believe in treating each pet as the individual that they are and tailoring their nutritional needs. I treat both dogs and cats. I do have a very soft spot for cats and all their peculiarities! I reside in the Austin area with my husband and our cat Jade.
